Easton Energy Group has been recognised for its work on the recent energy saving streets competition by winning Energy Reduction Project of the Year at the first ever Community Energy Awards.
The project, which is funded and managed by Bristol City Council, involves Easton Energy Group members and street champions engaging local residents to enter over 100 houses in June 2014 into a competition, with one cluster – Johnsons Road, Stepney Road and Stepney Walk – and two individuals winning the prize. Although installations are not yet complete, members’ and champions’ efforts in engaging and motivating residents in such a short time have been recognised by this award.
“I am delighted that Easton Energy Group won “Best Energy Reduction Project” at the national Community Energy Awards 2014. They have been leading the way in convincing householders in our demonstrator streets Stepney Walk, Stepney Road and Johnsons Road in Easton to save energy and install solid wall insulation. Congratulations to them, they are a real role model for others!” – George Ferguson, Mayor of Bristol
This autumn the council will launch its Warm Up Bristol scheme which will allow many other householders in Easton and the rest of the city to insulate their homes.
